Intimacy with God – Life’s Highest Priority

Spread the love

Every person is searching for something. Some chase success, some seek security, some yearn for love and approval. Yet at the core of every human heart is a quiet longing — a desire to know and be known, to love and be loved. This longing was placed there by God Himself. And nothing in life satisfies it except intimacy with God.

Intimacy with God is not the same as simply attending church, reading the Bible occasionally, or saying routine prayers. Those things are good, but they are not the goal. The goal is relationship — a living, breathing connection with the One who created us.

Just like human relationships deepen through time, intentionality, and presence, our walk with God also grows as we learn to meet Him personally and consistently.

Why Intimacy with God Matters

  1. It aligns our hearts.
When we draw near to God, our priorities begin to shift. What once seemed urgent becomes less important. What once didn’t matter starts to carry weight. We begin to see life through God’s eyes.
  2. It gives strength from within.
Life comes with pressures, unexpected turns, and seasons of quiet battles that no one else sees. Those who walk closely with God don’t avoid challenges — but they face them with a strength that is not their own.
  3. It restores identity.
Many people are living but not really alive because they don’t know who they are. In His presence, God reminds us:
“You are loved. You are chosen. You are mine.”
  4. It produces true transformation.
Real change does not happen by willpower alone. It happens as we behold Him. We become like whoever or whatever we spend the most time with. Time with God shapes character, thoughts, decisions, and habits from the inside out.

How to Prioritize Intimacy with God

Intimacy is built, not wished. Here are simple, life-giving ways to cultivate it:

1. Make Time for Him Daily

Even if it’s 10–20 minutes to start, be consistent. Let that time be personal, not rushed.

2. Open the Word Slowly

Don’t read the Bible just to finish a chapter. Read to hear God’s heart. A few verses with understanding and meditation are better than many rushed pages.

3. Speak to Him Honestly

Talk to God like a friend. Tell Him what you’re thinking, feeling, hoping, and worrying about. He already knows — but He loves to hear your voice.

4. Learn to Listen

After prayer, be still. Many times God speaks through a quiet impression, a verse, or a gentle peace. His voice is not always loud, but it is always clear to the listening heart.

5. Stay Aware of Him Throughout the Day

Whisper short prayers. Acknowledge Him while walking, working, or resting. He is not far — He is with you.

When Intimacy Becomes Your Priority

Life gains meaning.
Decisions become clearer.
Peace becomes natural.
Worship becomes joyful.
And your heart becomes anchored — not by circumstances, but by God Himself.

The highest calling of every believer is not service, preaching, ministry work, or spiritual achievements. Those things are beautiful, but they flow naturally from something deeper:

A heart that knows God.

If everything else is gained but intimacy with God is missing, we have lost the essence.
But if everything else is lost yet intimacy with God remains, we have gained everything.

So today, choose to draw near.
Not because you are perfect.
Not because you have everything figured out.
But because He wants you — deeply and personally.

Your life will never be the same.
